A cornerstone of South Carolina’s economic development efforts is ability key players have to work together. The state has a proven ability to work together – quickly and efficiently – to recruit new companies and to grow existing industry across South Carolina.

From record expansions to ribbon cuttings, 2022 has been a year of economic wins and celebrations in all corners of South Carolina. Not only has the state been successful in recruiting new industry, but S.C.'s existing companies continue to grow and thrive, expanding their footprints across the state. 

The future of commerce and conservation was at the forefront of Sustain SC’s inaugural Sustainability Symposium that was held last week in Columbia.

A revolution in the automotive industry is underway, and South Carolina is helping lead the charge. Already known as an automotive powerhouse that boasts some of the world’s biggest names, South Carolina is now a major driver in the electric vehicle (EV) shift – with a growing roster of automotive companies making commitments to build next-generation vehicles in the state.

ManuSouth Carolina produces some of the most complex products in the world. Each time a finished product rolls off an assembly line in the state – whether an electric vehicle, a top-of-the-line washing machine or a fighter jet – it continues to solidify S.C.’s reputation as a location that excels in advanced manufacturing.

S.C. Commerce teamed up with Chester County and E. & J. Gallo Winery (Gallo) last week to help grow the company’s local supplier network. 25 companies had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Gallo representatives to build prospective business relationships.

The 2022 hurricane season is officially underway, and according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this year is predicted to be “above-average” with 14 to 21 named storms.

S.C. Commerce is teaming up with Chester County Economic Development and E. & J. Gallo Winery to host an in-person supplier event for South Carolina companies.

Since taking the role of Secretary of Commerce last June, Secretary Harry Lightsey has been crisscrossing the state and meeting with economic development leaders and stakeholders with the mission to create opportunities and increase choices for all South Carolinians.

South Carolina’s various rural regions are home to unique communities, steeped in rich traditions and culture. To celebrate the economic development opportunities and solutions as distinctive as the communities, statewide rural leaders convened in Rock Hill for the 32nd Annual S.C. Rural Summit on March 6 – 8.
