Message from Secretary Hitt: Diversity Means Prosperity for Team S.C.

This week, as our nation celebrated one of history's foremost advocates of diversity, inclusion and unity -- Martin Luther King Jr. -- it's important to recognize what those words mean for South Carolina's economic development community. With more than 1,200 operations of foreign-based firms employing approximately 130,000 workers within our borders, Team South Carolina is no stranger to diversity. In fact, we welcome it.

Over the last few decades, we've embraced hundreds of international companies, as well as the cultures they represent. And, by doing so, a prosperous, diverse economy has been cultivated across our state. Moving forward, as we seek to ensure continued economic growth, diversity, inclusion and cultural sensitivity will remain critical. After all, more than 70 percent of the world's purchasing power is located outside of the United States. So, next time you notice a foreign flag flying at one of South Carolina's many international facilities, I encourage you to take a moment, and appreciate the remarkable economy that's been built by promoting diversity in our state.
