Secretary Hitt: New Inland Port Making Waves in S.C.

New facility to strengthen state's robust logistics network

When asked about his key to success, entrepreneur Walt Disney once said, "We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things." Here in the Palmetto State, Team South Carolina is always trying different strategies and blazing new trails. When it comes to trailblazers, look no further than the S.C. Ports Authority, which continues to be a key player in supporting the state's commerce and economic development efforts. As the Port has achieved new milestones -- setting a record for container volume in 2016 -- it's become clear that more resources are necessary to support the state's fast-growing manufacturing sector.

Last week, to accommodate this increased activity, ground was broken on a revolutionary, new 160-acre Inland Port in Dillon County. Complementing the existing inland port in Greer, S.C., Inland Port Dillon will be another shot in the arm for our state's robust logistics network, boosting cargo volumes at the Port of Charleston and attracting economic development to Dillon and the surrounding region.

Our state has made a name for itself in the world of complex manufacturing, due in large part to our ability to efficiently transport products. Inland Port Dillon will ensure that we continue to excel in this area, allowing South Carolina's economy to keep making waves on both the national and international stage.
