Commerce Communications: Developing South Carolina’s biggest asset

South Carolina’s talented workforce has earned an international reputation for making some of the most complex products in the world. Now, more than ever, it’s imperative to remain focused on workforce development. And, Team S.C. is committed to creating a pipeline where individuals have access to the education and training to fill the most in-demand jobs of today and tomorrow. That is accomplished by embracing a collaborative, multifaceted approach to recruiting and training.

S.C. Commerce is currently hosting a series of free monthly webinars highlighting workforce and retention efforts, including available resources, recruiting targeted populations, talent management and much more. And, earlier this year, S.C. Commerce launched Define the Journey, a six-episode podcast series that takes an in-depth look at workforce opportunities for students in the Palmetto State with conversations about different education options today and the many directions graduates can take as they begin their careers.

These recent series reiterate Team South Carolina’s ongoing workforce development efforts. S.C. Commerce’s Regional Workforce Advisors serve as local points of contact who bridge the gaps between educators and industry; the ManufirstSC program allows prospective employees to jumpstart manufacturing careers with a certificate in lieu of experience; partnerships with the S.C. Technical College System’s readySC and Apprenticeship Carolina help create and strengthen career pathways; and programs like Develop Carolina and SC Codes are strengthening the state’s digital workforce.

Employee recruitment is getting more competitive each day. By thinking outside the box and working together, Team South Carolina is committed to the continued identification of solutions to successfully address workforce and training challenges.
