Economic impact study of South Carolina’s life sciences industry released

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s life sciences industry has an annual economic impact of approximately $11.4 billion, according to a study commissioned by the S.C. Research Authority (SCRA) and S.C. Biotechnology Industry Organization (SCBIO) in partnership with the S.C. Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce). Prepared by the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business, the study finds that this growing sector has experienced an average annual employment growth rate of approximately 1.7 percent in the Palmetto State since 2005.

Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. establishing new facility in Florence County

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. (NAT) (TSXV: NAT) (OTCBB: NADVF), which produces and markets CRAiLAR®, a natural fiber made from flax and other bast fibers, plans to open a facility in Florence County. An initial $8 million investment will create 25 jobs as part of the company’s move to the county.

Genetec Global Technologies expanding operations in Greenville County

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Genetec Global Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Genetec Technology Berhad of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, located in Fountain Inn, today announced plans to further expand its presence in Greenville County by opening a new operation, Genetec Technology Automation, in Simpsonville. The $1.2 million investment is expected to generate 160 new jobs.
