2017 S.C. Aerospace Conference

The S.C. Aerospace Conference and Expo is designed to connect leaders from industry, academia and government to showcase the growing aerospace cluster in South Carolina. Paving the Way with Recycled Tires

The APWA Midlands Branch, in conjunction with the SC Department of Commerce, is holding a half day workshop entitled Paving the Way with Recycled Tires: Cost-Effective, High-Performing, and Safe Alternatives to Oil-Derived Polymers.

The workshop will include speakers from the SCDOT, along with asphalt and pavement suppliers and processors. At the end of the workshop, attendees will know more about this emerging technology and will take a field trip to an I-26 Frontage Road in West Columbia to see where the rubber meets the road.

Salute to Small Business

The South Carolina Salute to Small Business is the Palmetto State’s annual National Small Business Week event. Now in its 13th year, the 2017 Salute will be held Wednesday, May 3, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in downtown Columbia.

Small Business Boot Camp

On April 5, the Town of Chapin and the South Carolina Small Business Development Center will be holding a Small Business Boot Camp event at the Chapin Town Hall (157 Columbia Ave., Chapin, SC 29036) from 9am-Noon. This event will consist of an hour long panel discussion on various challenges facing small business owners. Questions will be taken from the audience and local resource providers will be on-hand to provide their knowledge and insights. The balance of the time will set up for one-on-one discussion at exhibitor tables set up in the meeting area.

City of Columbia Women's Business Opportunity Conference

The City of Columbia implemented a 10% DBE goal in 2015. This year, to help us reach this goal, the Office of Business Opportunities is hosting a Women’s Business Opportunity Conference on March 29, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This conference will: (1) educate vendors on the purchasing process at the City, (2) provide vendors with the opportunity to meet with purchasers representing various city departments, and (3) hear from women owned businesses who have successfully obtained contracts with the city.

Harmonized System (HS) and Schedule B Classification

This program will help you understand the Harmonized System and the Schedule B listing for exports. We will learn and review the six GRI (General Rules of Interpretation) used to classify every product. We will go through instructor and CBP-based sample classifications using each of the GRIs. By using the CROSS system, we will show how CBP reviews binding ruling requests and what that means for your products. After the training, you will know where to go for help and what to look at when beginning to look at your own products.
