While industry giants often dominate the business headlines, more than 97 percent of all private employers in South Carolina are small businesses. Recognizing this, it's clear that these small and medium-sized firms are the true backbone of our state's economy. Nationwide, small businesses employ nearly half of the American workforce, which is why on November 24, many across the U.S. will be celebrating Small Business Saturday. First observed in 2010, this important day encourages consumers to shop at small businesses.
So, next Saturday and beyond, be sure to support all of the local businesses that operate within our borders. After all, when one company succeeds, our entire state succeeds.
