Message from Secretary Hitt: Showcasing S.C. to the World

Next week, Spoleto Festival USA will officially kick off its 43rd season in Charleston. For 17 days and nights, South Carolina's historic theaters, churches and outdoor spaces will be filled with performances by renowned and emerging artists, in what is internationally recognized as America's premier performing arts festival. Also during this time, the 74th U.S. Women's Open Championship will be teeing off in Charleston, with players representing more than 25 countries.

Not only do these prestigious events draw thousands of visitors from around the world, they also serve as a reminder of South Carolina's already strong international brand. The Palmetto State is home to more than 1,200 operations of foreign-based firms, employing more than 140,000 workers within our borders. And, on the flip side, S.C. Commerce has a presence in China, Germany, India, Japan and South Korea, further building and fostering relationships with companies worldwide. While our efforts have resulted in a remarkable global reputation, we aren't resting on our laurels.

In the coming weeks, as you're enjoying an opera or theater performance, or as you're taking in elite golf, remember that you always have an opportunity to help sell South Carolina to the world. We are a connected state and excited to continue sharing the story that South Carolina is just right for live, work and play.
