Message from Secretary Hitt: Keeping Things Moving in SC

South Carolina has made a name for itself as a place that excels not only at making complex products, but also at shipping them all over the world. Five years ago, to better serve the state’s business community, the S.C. Ports Authority (SCPA) broke ground on an innovative inland port in Greer, S.C. Extending the port’s reach 212 miles inland, the facility has been so successful that a second inland port facility was constructed and opened earlier this year in Dillon, S.C.

Together, the two facilities have provided a major boost to South Carolina’s robust logistics network, increasing cargo volumes at the Port of Charleston and attracting economic development to their surrounding regions. Just this week, Container Maintenance Corporation announced plans to open a new facility in Dillon County, creating 54 new jobs. Moving forward, as Team South Carolina positions itself to promote future economic growth, SCPA’s innovative inland ports will remain an important piece of the puzzle.
