Despite our busy schedules and the fast-paced nature of economic development, it's always a good idea to take a moment and reflect upon the true purpose of our efforts. So, as we prepare to close the book on another successful quarter, I'd like to explore the primary mission of Team South Carolina. Tasked with more than just recruiting industry to the state, the goal of our team is to improve the quality of life for citizens in all corners of South Carolina. And, based on recent results, we seem to be doing just that.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, private sector employees in the Palmetto State enjoyed a 4.2 percent increase in average hourly earnings from July 2016 to July 2017. This surge nearly doubles the 2.5 percent gain experienced nationally. So, moving forward, as we continue to advance economic development across the state, remember the real reason for our efforts; and, as more jobs and investment are recruited, South Carolinians will benefit with increased opportunities and greater prosperity.
