Message from Secretary Hitt: A bird's-eye view of S.C.'s assets

bobby quoteIn responding to the coronavirus, the world learned to adapt to new ways of conducting business. Webinars, teleconferences and working remotely became the norm for connecting and interacting.

Here in the Palmetto State, the unprecedented situation presented opportunities for Team South Carolina to think outside the box to ensure we remain ready for continued success. One way we've primed our state for economic longevity is through our innovative approach to showcasing S.C.'s assets - our inventory.

Recognizing the need to continue being able to highlight sites to prospective industries wanting to do business in the Palmetto State - but not always being able to do so in-person or on-site - we once again pivoted. Utilizing our online platform LocateSC, we launched a drone video grant program to ensure our inventory remained available and visible.

Eligible counties were able to apply for grants to assist with the creation of videos of their most marketable sites. These videos feature a bird's-eye view of buildings and sites equipped for industry. They also showcase assets including location specs; highway, air, rail and shipping access; labor force data; and water, sewer and gas information - all accessible from your computer, phone or tablet.

Since the inception of the grant program last spring, LocateSC has approved the creation of 160 videos. These videos, along with additional videos already highlighting S.C. sites, can be viewed on the LocateSC website by using the search tool.

Having marketable sites ready and easily accessible for business is imperative to recruiting industry. These new videos are one more tool - available anytime and from anywhere - ensuring South Carolina is proactive, prepared and ready.
