International: Team South Carolina Hosts Cultural Awareness Event

South Carolina is home to 1,200 operations of foreign-based firms, employing a nation-leading seven percent of the state’s workforce. In total, more than 130,000 South Carolinians are employed by an international company, making it critical for community leaders across the state to understand etiquette and protocol related to a variety of cultures.

Recognizing this, on Monday, Team South Carolina hosted an Asian cultural awareness seminar in Newberry – home to Samsung’s new $380 million manufacturing facility. Attracting more than 50 individuals, the event featured presentations on China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. It allowed attendees an opportunity to gain insight on those respective cultures and how best to interact and do business with individuals from those countries.

Looking ahead, as Samsung continues to ramp up operations in Newberry County, there will undoubtedly be an increase in international influence in the Midlands and across the state. Events, such as this week’s seminar, help ensure that Team South Carolina is putting its best foot forward with regard to welcoming our international visitors. And, as a result, we’ll be able to showcase the world-renowned South Carolina hospitality our state has become so famous for.
