$12 million investment expected to create 150 new jobs
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Coroplast Tape Corporation, a maker of adhesive and insulating tapes used in the auto industry, is planning to locate its first U.S. production plant in York County. The $12 million investment is expected to generate 150 new jobs.
“After an extensive search by our site location consultants at Development Advisors LLC, we found the right location for our initial U.S. manufacturing operations in York County,” said Marcus Söhngen, president of Coroplast Tape Corp. “South Carolina provides us with an excellent business environment and the workforce talent we require to be successful. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials in bringing this project to fruition.”
Coroplast, which is headquartered in Germany, will set up the company’s first U.S. manufacturing facility in the York County Spec Building, located at 1230 Galleria Blvd. in Rock Hill. The company will manufacture a range of adhesive and insulating tapes used in the automotive industry and will start operations in the second quarter of 2014.

We celebrate the company’s decision to invest $12 million and create 150 new jobs in Rock Hill.”
Since January 2011, more than $5.1 billion and more than 8,500 jobs have been created in the automotive-related sector. During that same period, more than $6.5 billion and more than 15,000 jobs have been created by foreign-based companies. South Carolina is presently rated as the top state for jobs through foreign investment, according to IBM’s Global Location Trends report.
“In the last 20 years, South Carolina’s manufacturing sector has transformed from being concentrated in textiles to being a leader in the automotive industry,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “The Palmetto State has also seen investment from foreign companies grow. Today’s announcement by Coroplast builds on our state’s success in those two areas, and shows that South Carolina is just right for business.”
York County Council Chairman Dr. Britt Blackwell said, “We are excited to have the commitment of Coroplast. But this announcement is also the culmination of several years of work by York County to utilize grants funding from York Electric Cooperative and Comporium Communications to provide desperately needed speculative manufacturing space for our area. We believe this announcement is not only a testament to the economic strength of York County, but also to the key strategic partnerships that are necessary for success.”

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits.
