Nupi Americas success story International manufacturer increasing US production
Nupi Americas, a manufacturer and marketer of thermoplastic piping systems, is a subsidiary of Nupi Industrie Italiane S.p.A. of Italy. Headquartered in Houston, Nupi Americas first chose to establish operations in rural Hampton County, South Carolina, in 2015. The location and workforce were so favorable for Nupi Americas that they’ve taken on four expansion projects in less than 10 years, increasing US manufacturing and limiting the need to import pipes from Europe.
Expanding fast to keep up with demand
Nupi Americas originally purchased a 50,000-square-foot facility in Hampton County, SC. Three years later, the company constructed another 50,000-square-foot facility to mirror its first. In 2024, Nupi Americas announced a plan to double the size of its Hampton County facility, with a capital investment of $7 million to increase production capability with additional tooling and an expanded production area. This expansion is expected to allow fittings to be produced in the US and create 30 new jobs by 2028.
Domestic manufacturing support
South Carolina economic development teams at the state and Hampton County level worked together to create the best conditions for Nupi Americas to thrive. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to both establishing operations and expanding facilities.
