Hampton Lumber success story West Coast sawmill operator expands to South Carolina
In June 2025, Hampton Lumber, a producer of sustainable building materials based in Oregon, selected Allendale County as the home for the company’s first sawmill on the East Coast. Hampton Lumber is a fourth-generation, family-owned company that operates nine sawmills in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Canada, that markets building materials worldwide.
South Carolina supports growth in the wood products industry
Breaking ground on the new sawmill in November 2025, Hampton Lumber is constructing a state-of-the-art 375,000-square-foot lumber mill located at Highway 321 and Barker Mill Pond Road in Fairfax. The company’s $225 million investment is expected to create at least 125 new jobs in Allendale County. State, county and local community partners supported Hampton Lumber in their expansion efforts and The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.
Building a mill and joining the community
Hampton Lumber’s Fairfax, South Carolina sawmill will specialize in producing high-quality Southern Yellow Pine framing lumber and is expected to be operational in 2027. Hampton Lumber is making Allendale County the company’s home in the Southeast and plans to be an active part of the local community to help the area thrive.
We appreciate the support and partnership we received from the state of South Carolina and local community leaders throughout this process. Their commitment to economic growth and manufacturing made Allendale County a compelling location for Hampton's first East Coast sawmill, and we look forward to being a long-term partner in the region.
