Overview

readySC is one of South Carolina’s signature workforce development programs, helping qualifying companies recruit and prepare employees for the jobs they need to fill.

Rather than offering a standard training package, readySC works directly with each company to understand its workforce requirements and develop a customized solution around the operation. Training and recruiting support can be aligned with the company’s jobs, processes, equipment and startup schedule.

As part of the South Carolina Technical College System, readySC also draws on a statewide network of 16 technical colleges and decades of experience supporting industry.

What readySC provides

readySC can support multiple stages of workforce startup, from recruiting prospective employees to preparing them for company-specific jobs.

Recruiting and workforce preparation

Support may include:

  • Customized recruiting strategies
  • Candidate outreach and recruiting events
  • Job and skills analysis
  • Candidate assessment and screening support
  • Workforce planning aligned with hiring and startup schedules

Customized training

Training is developed around the company’s actual workforce requirements and may include:

  • Company-specific technical skills
  • Production processes and procedures
  • Equipment operation
  • Safety and quality requirements
  • Hands-on and simulated training
  • Classroom and instructor-led training
  • Customized curriculum and instructional materials

readySC can work with company subject-matter experts to understand specific jobs and processes, then translate that knowledge into training designed to prepare employees for successful operations.

Training resources and facilities

Depending on the project, readySC may also help coordinate:

  • Training facilities
  • Specialized equipment and training aids
  • Labs and simulated work environments
  • Qualified instructors
  • Training materials
  • Project management and logistical support

This ability to recreate aspects of a company’s actual work environment can give employees meaningful hands-on preparation before they transition into production.

How it works

readySC works with qualifying companies to understand their workforce needs and build recruiting and training support around the operation.

Depending on the project, that may include:

  • Identifying the skills and competencies required for specific jobs
  • Developing company-specific training and curriculum
  • Coordinating instructors, facilities, equipment and training resources
  • Supporting recruiting and candidate outreach
  • Aligning workforce preparation with hiring and startup schedules

Impact

readySC’s value goes beyond the delivery of training. The program helps companies develop a workforce around the skills their operation actually requires.

That can be particularly important when a project introduces new technologies, production processes or occupations that may not already exist at scale in the local labor market.

By helping people develop company-specific, marketable skills, readySC can expand the pool of workers prepared for new opportunities while giving employers greater confidence that workforce development can keep pace with business growth.

The program’s roots stretch back to 1961, when South Carolina created an industry training model intended both to support business recruitment and to give South Carolinians access to skills that could lead to employment in a changing economy.

A workforce strategy built around the company

For a company considering South Carolina, readySC can help answer one of the most important questions in a location decision:

How will we build the workforce we need?

Instead of leaving that challenge entirely to the employer, South Carolina can bring recruiting, training expertise, facilities and technical education resources together around the needs of the project.
