Message from Secretary Hitt: Being prepared for the win

"It's not the will to win that matters - everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters." Those famous words by legendary football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant perfectly illustrate the preparedness it takes to put economic development in South Carolina in a winning position.

This week, Team S.C. unveiled two new projects that will help ensure the Palmetto State maintains its competitive edge and ready to recruit new businesses and support existing ones.

Earlier today, the new I-26 and Volvo Car Drive Interchange officially opened in Berkeley County. This marks a milestone for South Carolina's infrastructure system, as the interchange connects the interstate directly to Camp Hall Commerce Park and Volvo Cars' manufacturing facility. The project helps create a reliable transportation network that enhances cultural and economic access not only to Volvo Cars, but the entire Camp Hall campus and neighboring community, as more and more companies are recruited to this area.

Another exciting project unveiled this week that will help S.C. prepare to win business and support existing industry is the new Palmetto Sites designation. The program offers prospective industry partners access to an inventory of industrial sites that have been vetted to meet an individual project's needs.

In partnership with Site Selection Group, the Palmetto Sites program layers a technical site analysis with robust workforce and target industry data. The outcome of this comprehensive analysis provides a strategic development plan, prioritizing site development and marketing efforts for communities. Designated Palmetto Sites have verified critical information and are reviewed and evaluated in the following areas: property ownership and control, site characteristics and due diligence reporting.

Palmetto Sites and the new I-26 and Volvo Car Drive Interchange are two examples from Team S.C.'s playbook, illustrating why locating in South Carolina is an easy decision. Moving forward, South Carolina is committed to continued preparation to recruit growth and be a winning destination that is 'Just right' for business.
