The state's highly regarded readySCTM program, a division of the SC Technical College System, offers an innovative program that provides recruiting and training assistance to companies that are expanding or looking to move to South Carolina. The program works with the state's 16 technical colleges to develop a training curriculum tailored to meet a company's workforce requirements - at no cost to that company. More than a quarter million workers have been trained since the program's inception.
The retrainSC program is crafted to propel existing industries forward. Focusing on evolving processes, enhancing skills and empowering companies to excel exponentially, retrainSC offers a payroll tax withholding rebate to help companies strengthen their workforce and remain leaders in their fields. The program reimburses up to $1,000 per eligible employee annually to cover company training costs.
Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) helps companies stay on the cutting edge and increase productivity and quality by providing employees with needed training in order for the business to remain competitive. IWT is a training resource to help businesses respond to changing skills requirements caused by new technology, re-tooling, new product lines or new organizational structuring. Learn more by contacting the local SC Works Center for details and funding availability.
The mission of the Apprenticeship CarolinaTM program is to ensure that all employers in the state have access to no-cost assistance to create their own USDOL registered apprenticeship programs.
Companies with registered programs earn up to $6,000 in a South Carolina state tax credit for each registered apprentice employee who works at least seven months during each year of the apprenticeship, depending on apprentice employee age. All industries can take advantage of the registered apprenticeship model and resources to upskill their new and existing employees in various occupations.
On-the-Job Training (OJT) provides for reimbursements to businesses to help compensate for the costs associated with skills upgrading and loss of production for the training of newly hired employees. OJT funds provide reimbursements to businesses of up to 50% of the wage rate of OJT participants (in certain circumstances up to 75%) to help defray the personnel training costs of new employees.
