Recycling: State Encourages Businesses to Report Recycling Activity

South Carolina’s recycling industry continues to be a powerful economic driver. In 2016 alone, this burgeoning industry was responsible for more than $102 million in new capital investment and the creation of approximately 350 new jobs.

To continue this economic growth and preserve the natural resources and beauty that make our state so special, Team South Carolina has established a bold goal. The state is aiming to recycle 40 percent of its municipal solid waste by 2020.

To help the state reach its goal, a system has been implemented encouraging businesses to report their recycling activity. Administered by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the S.C. Smart Business Recycling Program offers an online reporting system that is free and confidential.
