Existing Industry: Logistics Tech Talk Event Set for October

Over the last several decades, as South Carolina has transformed, becoming a global leader in advanced manufacturing and international trade, a complementary industry has developed across the state -- logistics.

Allowing South Carolina’s manufacturers to efficiently transport goods worldwide, the growth of the state’s burgeoning logistics industry has been a major driver of its economic success. According to the S.C. Council on Competitiveness (Council), this sector now employs more than 113,000 people in South Carolina and contributes approximately $32 billion to the state's economy.

Recognizing logistics’ significant impact and its importance to the future of manufacturing in South Carolina, the Council partnered with S.C. Commerce in 2016 to establish the S.C. Logistics initiative. A great example of Team South Carolina at work, this initiative is aimed at connecting, marketing and growing the logistics industry throughout the state.

Each year, to examine the impact innovation and technology solutions are having and how they are changing today’s logistics industry, the group hosts a Tech Talk event. This year’s event, scheduled for October 31, is taking place in conjunction with the S.C. International Trade Conference and will feature a keynote address from Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
