After a comprehensive review of its supply chain and logistics network in April 2014, Rite Aid, a Fortune 500 drugstore chain, made the decision to consolidate three of its existing distribution centers into one new $90 million facility in Spartanburg County, SC. Supporting the inventory and fulfillment needs of more than 1,000 Rite Aid stores in the Southeastern United States, the facility is the company’s first new distribution center in 15 years. Including the 91 drugstores it operates across the state and the new distribution operation in Spartanburg County, Rite Aid now employs more than 1,600 South Carolinians – a number which is only expected to increase as the new distribution center reaches full capacity.

Successes in SC

  • Announced in January 2016, Rite Aid began shipping products out of its new $90 million distribution facility, serving approximately 250 stores across the region.
  • In June 2016, Rite Aid officially opened the 900,000-square-foot facility.
  • By summer 2017, the facility is expected to be fully operational, serving more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast.
