Defense Diversification

US Department of Defense contracts are a welcome source of revenue for our state, but relying heavily on these accounts can put our residents’ jobs at risk. The South Carolina Department of Commerce and the Department of Employment and Workforce are offering $3 million in grants to help in-state defense contractors diversify their businesses and become less dependent on government contracts.

The grant will assist with training, including:

  • Strategic planning
  • Sales and marketing
  • Lean product development
  • Quality certification

Qualifying companies must currently receive at least 10% of revenue from defense contracts (either as a contractor or subcontractor) and demonstrate anticipated declines in revenue of 5%.
