The South Carolina Department of Commerce works to promote economic opportunity for individuals and businesses. As South Carolina’s leading economic development agency, the Department of Commerce works to recruit new businesses and help existing businesses grow.
A national leader in direct foreign investment, the state has a global reach with offices in Europe and Asia that recruit foreign investment to South Carolina and assist existing companies in developing export markets. Additionally, Commerce assists companies in locating buildings and sites in which to operate, offers grants for community development and infrastructure improvements, provides tools to enhance workforce skills and is committed to helping businesses prosper in South Carolina.
The Department of Commerce also maintains the S.C. Public Railways and the S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development.
