Paris Air Show 2011

South Carolina has a deep history in aviation and aerospace. From companies fitting traditional aluminum-skinned aircraft, to defense companies employing the latest technologies, more than 100 such companies call South Carolina home.

We celebrated the future of aviation at the 2011 Paris Air Show, June 20-26th where South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and our delegates were on hand to discuss why industry leaders like Boeing, GE, Northrop-Grumman and Lockheed-Martin come to South Carolina, including:

  1. A business-friendly climate.Tort reform, worker’s compensation reform, lower taxes and health care access for small businesses are just a few of the reasons why South Carolina has ranked among the top five most business-friendly U.S. states for the past six years.
  2. A skilled workforce.Ranked No. 5 in the nation based on quality, availability and training of workers, South Carolina prides itself on our 180,000 well-trained workers. Our readySC™ workforce training program has ranked in the top five for the past eight years.
  3. Deep market access & reliable infrastructure. Located halfway between New York City and Miami, South Carolina is a gateway to international markets due to our vast communications network and integrated transportation system that includes seaports like the Port of Charleston – which has been a major hub for global commerce and trade for 300 years.
  4. Reliable & affordable energy. South Carolina has one of the lowest industrial power rates in the United States, about 16 percent lower than the national average. These savings translate to a better bottom line – and are just one way South Carolina maintains its pro-business environment.
  5. International investment. South Carolina is committed to helping international companies establish, relocate and expand in the U.S. and North American markets. In fact, South Carolina ranked No. 1 in the nation for its share of workforce employed by foreign companies. Furthermore, South Carolina has two international offices to provide additional support to foreign companies.

In 2010, Boeing announced its second major facility in South Carolina, proving once again that world-class businesses come to the Palmetto State to get the job done. Boeing has since completed its final assembly plant structure and in July 2010 announced that it would open an interiors fabrication facility in South Carolina, as well.
